But how do you decide what to do – which issue to work on – what cause to support? There are so many challenges in our society that need to be addressed. Which one is right for you? How will you make your mark? A good place to start is by responding to a few challenging questions. It will help you create a personal “Just Make Your Mark” statement. To help you make choices, give these 8 questions some thought and reflection: • EMPATHY: Have you been challenged in your life with an obstacle? It was tough on you and you probably thought: I could really use some help with this. • PAY BACK: Have you benefited from help from someone or some organization? You feel like you should really repay what was done for you. • HEART BREAK: Is there something that when you see it, your heart is broken? You just can’t stand that this problem exists and is hurting or hindering someone. • ENERGY: Is there some issue or cause that seems to get you excited, give you energy? You don’t have to be asked, you want to address this. • TIME: If you had a day with absolutely nothing to do, how would you choose to spend the day to help others? You would view this activity or cause a great way to spend the day. • MONEY: If you had a lot of extra money, how would you use it to make the world a better place? You get a warm feeling thinking about an organization would you support or problem you would try to solve. • SKILLS: What gifts or talents do you have that could benefit others? This may be a unique ability, experiences, or expertise. • FAMILY/FRIENDS: Do you have a family member of close friend who is confronted by something they need help in overcoming? You are close to this situation and it pulls at your emotions.
